Project Details – MRO COST AND TAT REDUCTION

Client:
MRO – Composite Repair
Location:
Florida, USA
Year Completed:
2022-Present
Category:
MRO – Commercial

Challenge

A large Part 145 repair station in South Florida was competing for a major contract with a large carrier to support the repair and maintenance of their fleet of engine thrust reversers. The program award was highly competitive and as all the competitors were well regarded much of the award decision was based on price and turn-around times.

Solution

Peloton Aerospace worked with the customer to develop a Fabrication Quality Control System (FQCS) which was accepted by the FAA and provided guidance on how to execute a robust fabrication program. We leveraged the company’s historical repair order data to determine the repair parts (excluding Category 1 parts) that drove the most spend and/or had the most availability issues. Then, following the FQCS, we reversed engineering the 50 highest priority repair parts, created substantiation packages, sourced the parts from more than 10 AS9100 certified manufacturers and delivered them to the customer on a JIT basis.

Results

The development of a fabrication capability for our customer, in partnership with Peloton Aerospace created significant competitive advantage in the market and created the foundation for implementation of alternative and innovation solutions

• Fully documented FAA-compliant solution
• Won a $40M+, 5-year contract with a major carrier for their engine TR repairs
• Reduced the cost of repair parts by 25% resulting in a cost advantage of over 10% against other competitors
• Changed the competitive landscape in our customer’s favor with significant cost and TAT
• FQCS (Fabrication Quality Control System), based on AC43.18, accepted by the FAA and the foundation for a robust fabrication capability being rolled out at all other divisions of the company
